Where are Australians spending their money?

According to research by Illion, our food delivery spend is up 259% from pre-COVID-19 days. We are buying more furniture than we used to and our online gambling habits are up almost 60%. At first glance, it seems we are spending more money on gambling. The truth is, our spend is about the same but we are staying home to gamble rather than visiting our local casino, pub, or betting venue.

Not surprisingly, we are drinking and smoking more than our pre-COVID-19 lifestyle and spending extra cash on our pets and home improvement.

Gyms, pubs and public transport are still taking a beating resulting from current restrictions in most states.
