Eat your leftovers
The average grocery spend per week in Australia is $140. That equates to $6,720 per year. On average we throw away 20% of our food because it’s either gone bad in the fridge or we’ve tipped it into the bin after our meal.
By simply reusing leftovers and reducing food waste to zero, we could be saving an average of $1,344 per year.
If we place that into a savings account for 30 years with an average interest rate of 5% compounded monthly, we would have an extra $504,904 in our bank accounts.
