Registered Tax Practitioner Numbers Surge to 77,749

As at 30th June 2018 there are 42,561 tax agents, 15,638 business activity statement (BAS) agents and 19,550 tax (financial) advisers regulated by the Tax Practitioners Board.

The profession has a strong gender bias with 73% of tax agents being male, and 79% of tax (financial) advisers. In contrast, 81% of BAS agents are female.

Despite all the fear and doom and gloom of MyTax eating accountants’ lunches, the figures to date don’t support this. ATO statistics indicate registered tax practitioners still lodge 72.4% of all income tax returns, including 96.7% of business returns.
